Human skin has 3 layers namely Epidermis, Dermis, and Hypodermis(top to bottom). Each layer is made of completely different types of tissues, which is the main specialty of our skin. The Epidermis is made up of Epithelial Tissue which is an average of 50 cell layers thick and usually every week some new layers get added below and due to lack of blood reachability, the upper layers fade away or say die. The Dermis layer which is the second layer is made up of Dense Irregular Connective Tissue. This is basically the layer where the ink is deposited and lasts for years. This layer has got Fibrocytes(cells) which produce protein fiber called Collagen. Also, this layer has all other stuff like nerve endings, blood vessels, hair follicles, etc.Now when a foreign substance(ink) enters this layer, a process of inflammation starts due to which white blood cells get to the site of ink. Usually, white blood cells digest or break down the foreign substance that comes in like viruses, bacteria, etc. But here we got ink that cannot be digested or break down. And this leads to a process where these white blood cells collect that ink and isolates it by keeping them there and not letting them go all over the body. And we can see that ink over the surface of the skin, and when that white blood cell dies, a similar process occurs and new white blood cells collect the ink again. Talking about the Hypodermis layer, it is made of Fatty tissue, which by name we can say that it helps to create a blur or say shade effects in the tattoo, as we know that ink spreads in fats or oils.
PRO TIP: As the thickness of the Dermis layer is different at each part of the body, making a tattoo from a professional tattoo artist is recommended. As he/she knows how much pressure should be given on the needle according to the place of the tattoo.
