In recent times apart from some new words like "Simp", we also came across an isolating word "Social-Distancing". Listening to it usually feels like Social-Disturbing. So to study how it affects our minds, a team consisting of 8 Scientists and 1 cook was sent to the German Research Center "Neumayer-Station III", located in Antarctica. A place that consists of extreme conditions in the form of temperature, living, and spending time.
The study was conducted from 2016 to 2018, and this team had to spend 14 months in the research center all alone. Before going there all the tests, scans were carried out to record their physical and mental status. After going there, in the initial period it seemed too good, their brain tried to adapt things, seeing the white coasts all around for the first time, and living in different situations seemed to have a positive effect on their mind.
But as time passed it seemed repetitive and deprived of social life or social interactions. Which leads to anxiety, depression, anger, and also affected their memory power. Most of the members lost volume in parts of their "hippocampus", a region in your brain responsible for emotional processing, learning, and navigation. Also, a region called "the dentate gyrus" in the brain shrunk by 10% on average.
People will not face the same in current situations, as it differs from the extreme environment of the Antarctic. But related things may concern us, so the only aim of conveying this is to try to be good with everyone in this phase of time.
